Sitting in the quiet of Tin Roof Studio, I find myself contemplating old canvases. One in particular catches my attention. I had a bold idea for it yet I changed the image halfway through because I was afraid it would be misinterpreted.
Instead, playing it safe, I changed the it to appeal to a wider audience, one less likely to be seen wrong. In doing so, the painting fell flat, the imagination toned down, the spark of creativity diminished.
Now I decided it was time to start over. Boldly covering over the old image, I allow a new one to take shape. A vague impression slowly takes on form as I bring it into a sharper focus. I step back, giving the painting space to breathe and suggest the next step, the image slowly emerging from the chaos.
I'm not sure yet what the finish of my paint strokes will be. I can only go where imagination and courage takes me and let time reveal the answer.
